Update: It went into protection mode. I took it to a technician for repair. I've been using it for the past year. It's hooked up to a Sony st-s500es tuner, tape decks, turntable, CD players, and 6 speakers selector box going to various speakers (Altec 14, Valkyrie, ES200 with dps10 sub, Advent A4). The speaker ohm selector switch is located on the back. First impression: Relay takes awhile to click, plays loud, detailed, clear, and highs/mids/lows are amazing thanks to its 5Hz-200kHz and damping factor which make some of my speakers smile.
Jungle and grindcore play well. The 'bass boost' seems more like a nudge than a boost! Tone controls seem bland or weak.

I connected a EQ to help, it did. The unit does run warm and close to egg fry hot. I placed a Elan cooling fan on top. Sound profile: This does have a distinct Sony sound.

Performance wise I'd like to compare it to a G-7700 but I won't. Compared to an str-7065A, I think it sounds a bit better overall. I'm still learning.I have not taken the volume past 12 o'clock.yet. I want to keep my hearing.I agree the caps are not in the best location. The whole unit is almost as heavy as my Dodge. I hate to giggle but I'm in the process of trying to fix one right now.which is what brought me to read your comment (and grab a schematic). It would be a whole lot easier to repair if they hadn't mounted the filter caps directly above the output stage secured with 2' long wires.:(Yeah I know the filters have to be on a short leash but maybe they could have mounted them under the preamp or somewhere that doesn't need to be serviced as often.I will prevail - but it's taking longer than it should have:).
